The Shawsax Quartet was formed to entertain the conservative taste of the Hampshire Jazz scene. The band plays a 'smooth jazz' style, with tenor saxophone sweetly singing over a guitar driven bluesey jazz repertoire. This sound is ideal for venues that both serve food and have a bar area, for people to watch, listen and enjoy. Rather than play the over-melodic, old fashioned  standards' the band have a relaxing sound, combined with the groovey and funky feel of the blues. The band is very popular, especially with people who don't normally enjoy jazz.

Andy Broad has been a professional jazz and blues guitarist for over twenty years and recently joined forces with professionl sax player Christie Shaw. After recently completing a course in jaaz studies, at Chichester College, Tim Nowel, a blues bass player with twenty years live experience, chaired the bass guitar. Trevor Holland has played jazz drums for nearly fifty years. He is one of those drummers, who actually makes the drums sing with a beautiful tone.

The band cover hits by Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, the Jobim bossa novas and many more popular standards. We also throw in some our own compositions, add a touche of the avante garde and sounds from the orient, just for entertainment and interest. As a graduate of Music and Music Technology, Chris absolutely loves the opportunity to play themes from Japan, India, China, American Indian and Celtic motifs on the saxophone. The band are currently writing an album and are planning to record n the summer. There are two rough demos below, which were recorded live at Bistro 69 on a simple recorder. At the bottom of the page is a short film made by Chris, although the bss player and drummer are different, it does give you an idea of the different styles of music the band can play.
